What are valuable qualities in a call center agent?
Depending on where you live you can often get a call center job and learn on the job. That is the way I and a lot of other people learned. If you are interested in the job but cannot get a job because you are under qualified you may try some of the following.
- Learn customer service skills by working at a non call center job. Obviously being a call center agent will be different because you cannot see the customer you will still learn valuable tools to help the caller.
- Practice with friends to work on the way you sound on the phone.
- Work on your your ability to deal with difficult customers.
- Research the company you would be taking calls for to learn things other do not learn until training.
- Work to improve your typing skills.
- Be fluent in the language of the callers you will be supporting. Here is a program that can be helpful in improving your language skills.
- Improve your technical knowledge. This can often be done by practicing with the actual product you will be supporting. If you are supporting computers spending time working with computers. The caller can always tell if you know about your subject or if you are just reading from a script.
- Work on improving your problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Practice with friends on the phone to be sure you can be assertive with customers without being aggressive.
